Default Will Deleting HCV Increase Risk of Heater Core Failure?

Hey guys,

Title says it all. Thinking about deleting the stupid, plastic heater control valve 'cause the thing leaks and is getting worse. Aside from laziness, the other reason I have not done this is because I am wary of heater core failure. I NEVER use the heat setting, and hearing the stories of coolant vapor in the cab, along with knowing the trouble it is to replace the heater core, I want to avoid these things.

As I understand it, deleting the HCV will allow coolant to flow through the heater core all the time. I have always assumed this does not occur when the blower is on the "vent" setting, which I use exclusively.

Most of todays newer cars do that, only thing that keeps the heat from you is the blend door.

If you don't ever use heat, just bypass the heater core altogether by connecting the heater core inlet & outlet hoses.

You will be fine. Actually, the heater core will last longer because there will not be stagnant coolant mix in it most of the year. Ditch that piece of junk!!!

You'll be fine my 97 doesn't have one and still has the original heater core with no leaks.

The HCV doesn't control pressure. Just flow.

Exactly the opposite is true. The HCV will more likely lead to a heater core failure due to the fact that in the Summer you'll never get fresh coolant circulated through it. Get rid of that over engineered piece of crap.
