Any good 98 XJ Dash Removal Write-up? (Heater Core/AC Evap Core)
Hey guys,
My heater core is done for. Tons of antifreeze mist from the vents, and its about to get cold in Colorado. Steams up the windows like crazy if it is humid outside...
I have been searching for a good how-to for days now, but none of them have pictures linked anymore. And all of the links to PDF versions of the same post are also broken. Does anyone have a PDF version possibly saved, or a working link -- I would greatly appreciate it.

I am probably still going to attempt to get the heater/evap core assembly out tomorrow, but I am wondering if it is worth the $430 to have a shop replace it (It doesn't look that complicated, but I am afraid of not being able to get assembly out, or breaking ****).
A/C Is already discharged because it has not worked in years, so I at least have that going for me.

My AC is next on my list.
I have also had problems with broke links.
But I really don't think it will be that difficult to do on your own. Prolly not worth the 450$ in my opinion.

Just realized this was from 2014 -- I do have a pdf write up on my computer for anyone that wants it. I would like to make a sticky with it, but I'm not sure how to do that, and also it's not my write up and I cannot remember where I got it from to give credit.

Just wanted to say like others has mentioned don't cheap out also replace the seals also even if they look "OK". I did my 2000 about 2.5 years ago and went with Evaporator Core 4 Seasons 54188 and Heater Core Spectra 93024. Although so far no isues with the cores but all the horror stories on the spectra failing afterwards has me second guessing my choice as I really do not intend of pulling dash out again.
As far as my seals they don't leak when it rains but if I raise hood and wash it does and since I just replaced the pans wanted all leaks fixed so I just used some urethane sealant wiped around the blower motor and firewall and so far no leaks. If I had it to do again I would of spent extra money on copper heater core and replaced all seals/foam in HVAC box.
lol...just noticed this was a bumped thread from few years back..lol Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm doing the same thing. My heat's been pretty wimpy for a couple of years and living in Chicago that's a big deal. Except the other day I started to get a whiff of stink when I turned the heat on. Guessing that means one thing. Time for open heart surgery. MikeSignal....I'm be sending you a DM for the write up if its still available.
