Default Why did you choose a Cherokee???

As a brand new...........newbie.......I've been a pickup man all my life (except for that 68 Chevelle with that 396 )
Was just wonderin what other members found so appealing in the XJ.
Myself, I was lookin for something that I could buy outright...in this day and age who wants to finance a snickers bar???...Honestly at that point I was hell-bent on a wrangler............
THEN........I saw her, OMG!!!... (wasn't my keeper, just fuel for the fire)
I'm 44 years old....so my young impresionable years were in the late 70's and the early 80's. From that era when pickups...bronco's and blazers were all squared off and blocky, like a truck OUGHTTA BE...not all rounded off lookin like a stealth fighter or something straight out of star wars.
I love the Tacoma....had one for many years....but the new ones??????
What self-respecting man would drive something that looks like that???
Which brings me back to the XJ.....squared off..lookin sexy just like that. Simple lines...NO IFS....torsion bars and coilovers are too much trouble.
Learnin that my newfound passion will have many hurdles to cross to fit 32's under her...without wonderin if the driveshaft is gonna fall out, but, it does sound like HERE, there is enough knowledge and experience to help a guy create a daily driver....eastern mountain stomper....that'll ride reasonably well on the interstate to get to the National Forest.

The price is always an easy sell for an xj. And it always looks so random when you see one drive buy.

I always wanted a Jeep and needed something with a back seat when the kids were on the way. A co-worker sold me a 92 that only had 20k on it. 13 years and 265k miles later I sold it because I also had a TJ by then. I missed it every day and finally decided to sell the TJ. Now I've got a 99 with 80k on it, so I figure this one is just getting broken in.

I originally was looking for a CJ7. But I have 2 kids and my Girlfriend has 1. A CJ just wasn't going to work. I wanted somehting you can pack gear in to go wheelin and camping with the family. I wanted a vehicle that was meant to go 4-wheeling, straight axle & fuel injected. It took me over a year to find the right one on Craig's list. Lots of false advertisments! But finally found a single owner, well maintained, great shape, and good price! I've spent more on upgrades than I didon the vehicle. Tires, wheels, lift, bumper, etc... all in the name of love!

They also just plain look tough!

The Cherokee is an easy vehicle to work on. Plus, the powerplant is pretty bullet-proof.

Plus, I like simple. And Cherokees are simple.

Back in the day i was driving around in my beloved FJ-40 Land Cruiser, started looking for something with more room. Bud had recently owned a Cherokee and i was fond of it and Toyota ForeRunners. At the time the Cherokee was a better buy.

Found a beautiful 2 door Cherokee, made an offer and brought it home. Through the years i'v been impressed with the 4.0L and it's reliabily, and the relative ease of maintenance on the Jeep. When i totaled the 2 door i bought another Cherokee.

However with that said, i do believe this will be my last Cherokee. I think i want to build a Grand next. The wife has one and i recently aquired another which is sitting in front of garage awaiting me.

Mine was one of those, "Too good to pass up" things. I'd been kicking around selling my '98 BMW 323 for a while, since it needs some suspension work and I've not really had the time nor cash flow to handle it since I bought the house. A coworker was getting rid of the Cherokee and wasn't getting anything for trade in, so I bought it off of him for less than KBB.

At first it was just going to be "temporary transportation", but I'm finding myself liking it more and more as time goes on. Too bad it's not 4wd, I guess when the engine finally lets go I'll have to do a conversion on it.

The XJ platform is a bomb proof set up, hands down it was built to last. When you drive down the road look at how many XJ's you see still on the road, tons and tons. If you have priced out an XJ at your local used car lot, any XJ with less than 100K is about eight thousand dollars or more. KBB on a mint XJ is $6500. That says a lot. I chose an XJ because it can be run trough the ringer and still come back for more.....more that ounce.
