I needed to have something that would haul 2 grandkids and had owned many Jeeps in the past. So I found my current one on the side of the road with a "FOR SALE" sign. So I called and it was reasonable so I bought it. Subsequently bought 2 others. One for the grandkids mother (my daughter) and a 2WD 96 for a hunting rig, which I converted to 4WD. That has been my extent of Cherokee ownership.
)My aunt & uncle and one of my cousins have owned these trusty little rigs and swore by them, and another cousin currently has one with over 240k on the clock that still runs straight and true and purrs like a kitten, so that was confidence-inspiring as well.
And you cannot deny that they're just so damn sexy-looking! Clean, straight and gorgeous.

I was in a car accident my senior year in high school and my car was totaled. When it came time to pick up something new, going to college in Michigan played a big factor in it. With the Winters being rough, my parents wanted to get something with 4x4. I looked at a Bravada (with all the bells and whistles; right down to the heated leather seats) but then I found the XJ. It's was bare as all get out compared to the Bravada, but it was the 4.0L straight 6 that sold me.

I was in the army living in Germany. Had a little Sami and after I decided to move back after I got out the Sami commuted suicide. So I wanted something strong, powerful and classic. I knew I wanted a jeep but was on the fence between a wrangler and an XJ. My wife persuaded my hand (needed something enclosed for kids sake) so I started looking hard for an XJ. Found one with the right miles and price. Bought it sight unseen and have been pleased.
I just bought my first Jeep, a 2001 Cherokee. I've been mostly a car guy, have a 96 Trans Am and my last DD was a Buick Regal GS. I've put 60k of HARD miles on the Regal in the past 3 years I've been a private investigator, and I'm up around 180k on it now, and while the engine runs strong, the car has been beat up. Plus, its not very good in the snow, and for work I get sent out in all sorts of snow storms and I really decided I need to get something with 4wd to get myself to work when the roads are unplowed safely. So looking for new vehicles, I wanted an SUV that had 3 things: reliability, easy to work on and get parts for and something that blended in so that I don't look out of place. I wanted a Yukon/Tahoe, but they're too big to fit the 3rd criteria, Explorers aren't reliable (and you won't catch me dead driving a ford...) and there's already a Jimmy in my circle of friends so Blazer/Jimmy was out... My Dad's GF has a Wrangler she bought new in 99 with 200k on the clock and is still dead reliable (matter of fact she just bought a cherokee after I got mine, haha) and I've always liked the Cherokees, so thats what I went with and I could not be happier.
I'll keep it mostly stock, probably will add disks to the rear, and maybe a transmission cooler, for maximum easy to work on and reliabilty, and that will probably be it for a while, aside from my elctronic goodies on the inside. Invertor, GPS, Stereo, Scanner, and maybe a CB, but I doubt it, the whip will be too noticeable. While I love my jeep already, the Trans Am still calls me to dump money into performance... Though maybe some engine work will come... hehe

I knew I wanted a small, stock 4x4 SUV that I could tow my ATVs with. There's not a lot out there that had the towing capacity of the Cherokee. A 4Runner was in the same ballpark as far as the specs are concerned, but the same year 4 Runner costs about 2½ times as much as a Cherokee. I'm a sucker for solid axles as well, so the more I thought about what I really wanted and needed, the more obvious it was that a Cherokee fit the bill.

We've had them in my family since I was 15 (I'm 34 now)... they've handled everything... offroading, snowy winters, hunting/fishing/camping trips.
There's a ton of accessorizing you can do, they run forever, look amazing with only a few changes, look good even when stock. They're square, boxy, and turn on a dime and are great for tight maneuvering on narrow logging roads.
They're a do-all sort of SUV. I'm hoping to keep driving my newest until retirement age or until it drops out from under me... and maybe even after that

Friend had a '95, put 300,000k miles on it in a little over 3 years. Beat it hard off road. Vehicle had no mechanical issues... gease/oil/filter and keep on keepin' on.
Girlfriend (now wife) loved driving his truck (3" lift 33's) around town, and I could not believe the ability/toughness off road.
In '98 as winter approached, she wanted a 4x4, neither of us wanted anything other than a Cherokee based solely on what my buddies had been through without issue.

This one is the thrird one I have had:
I got this one because:
I had a 90 Toyota Extra cab, but needed more Family room
Price, 3,100 although by the time I'm done it will be more like $7,000
They go anywhere
I can sleep in it when I go Hunting
Upgrades are endless, not sure thats a good thing
It doubles as a Grocery getter
And the list goes on
