Default wheelbearings help please!!!

ok i have a grinding noise coming from the rear, i know its not the front i just replaced both sides up front. ive checked all ujoints they are fine. so here is what i did i jacked the rearend in the air and had my girlfriend get in put it in drive and give a little gas and i can hear the grinding so i stuck my ear to the wheels and on the passenger side wheel the one not spinning i hear the grinding and when i pushed in on the wheel the grinding got alot louder so is this a bad wheelbearing or axel bearing or what? im not a mechanic but i can usually get the job done with a little instruction and help, i just dont know for sure if its a wheelbearing or something else.when i drive it the grinding is pretty much constant and gets louder as i speed up and when i make left turns it howls if that helps. i really need help cause its my dd and i cant afford to be buying wrong things right now. help please!!!!

Champ I would suggest pulling the drum off and doing a visual inspection before asking about wheel bearings. It might be something simple.

agreed, remove the drum and inspect all the springs and what not on your brake setup.

and is the noise coming from the passenger side wheel or when you put your head by the differential housing can you hear it there? cause it could be the passenger side carrier bearing for the Diff. just a guess, but check out the brakes before you pull the rear-end apart!

Rear brakes is where i would start. delaminated shoes, broken springs doesnt cost you anything to look!!

you can get a overhaul kit that comes with inner/outter bearing,seals/gaskets and marking compound for a good price.

ok i checked the brakes and everything lookes good everythings where it should be. and went ahead and changed wheelbearings on both sides and it didnt help a thing. the gear teeth looked fine also so im thinking pinion bearing or carrier bearings or both. i dont think i want to get into that stuff so could someone give me a rough estimate what it might cost me to have these bearings replaced? thanks again.
