Default VC gasket- sealant?

I'm sure this is somewhere, but I couldn't find it.

I'm replacing the VC gasket on the 4.0/87/4wd. I've picked up the rubber felpro from napa. Do I use high tack on the VC side with this? Or is that just for cork gaskets?

Thanks in advance!

The Felpro rubber gaskets require NO RTV. Make sure the head and VC surfaces are spotless before installing the new gasket.

Make sure your original torque limiter bushings are installed in the new Felpro grommets.

Wonderful-thank you!

What is a torque limiter bushing? Is it possible/relatively easy to get these new?

I'd like to have them on hand in the event the PO did not use them.

Torque limiter sleeves and grommets started being used in 1996 so I'm not sure your engine will need them. If you need torque limiters the OEM # is 53020598.

Take a look at your new gasket kit and see if it came with grommets. It won't have limiters.

I have the VC off and am cleaning. Here's a picture. Is there anything I should take care of while the VC is off?

Also, do I put the VC gasket on the engine or on the cover?

Thanks in advance!

Put it on the engine not the cover.

Don't over tighten those bolts. They will snap off real quick. I just use a 3/8 ratchet with a 3" extension and tighten them until they're a little bit tighter than snug.

Tighten them in the same sequence as you would torque the head.

While you have the cover off you may want to consider changing out the ccv and check out the hoses to it too.

In case you don't know, the torque setting for those bolts is 133 in/lbs or about 12 ft/lbs. And you probably know by now that there are three different types of bolts. Hopefully you made a note of that.

Good advice. The CCV hoses and grommets get brittle and deteriorate over time.

The time to replace the CCV components is when you have the valve cover off! It's easier to get those grommets out when the valve cover is off.

Replacement of the entire CCV system will cost you about $50, give or take a few. Purchase either at the dealer or aftermarket.

Here's a hokey diagram for the 2 type bolts on a rEnix.
