Default Unplugged Connector Just Dangling

Hello Forum. I recently bought a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport, 2-door with 5-speed manual transmission. While looking around in the engine compartment, I found a 2-wire connector not connected to anything. There is a plastic connection strap with a hole in it on the wire which was apparently attached to a bolt or stud somewhere. I spent about 30 minutes looking around to try and find where it should connect, with no luck. The wire originates near the firewall on the right (passenger) side of the vehicle. If anyone knows what this should connect to, I'd appreciate your help. Thanks!

Here's a close-up of the connector (laying atop the oil dipstick):

Here where the wire comes from -- the one in the middle of the three wrapped in plastic coil cover:

Here's a close-up of the connector:

I have a 96 sport with that same bare connector. I believe that it is the connector for an under hood lamp. Perhaps I'll be corrected.

Same situation with my '96 Sport. It is for a under hood lamp.

Ive got the same connector on my 97. The bulb is exposed, with a white shroud, like this one.

The previous owner probably had his battery run down by that light not turning off when the hood closed. Most of my stuff has the same kind of thing and I've disconnected them and just plug it in if I want the light to come on.
