Default Underhood Insulation

My jeep 1995 still has the underhood insulation. What are the pro and cons of it? I understand if there is a engine fire it should fall and smother it, just curious.

I've heard that one too and just laugh......it's for noise reduction, nothing more.

I regret taking mine off. I had my Jeep painted (actual nice automotive paint) I decide I didn't need it. Now, 4 years later that's the only spot that is starting to crack. Its good for hood insulation from the engine . But if you have hood vents, that's better than the insulation.

I'm gonna revive this one just to ask a question and not start up an entire new thread.

I'm sure the under hood insulation is more for noise. My question goes to those who had it, then took it off. Was there much change in noise for you?

Don't know about the XJ, SE trim level doesn't have it. Had it on other vehicles, took it off, and quickly put it back on.....it does reduce engine noise. If it's not coming apart and falling down, leave it on but it's no biggy if it's removed. Our factory hood paint still looks great and again, SE trim level doesn't come with under hood insulation.

Both my 96 XJ Sports (a 4x4 and a 2WD) have factory hood insulators. Both also have almost no paint left on the hoods!

That's great.....Sport trim level and SE trim level (base) are not the same. The SE must get the better paint though.

Put the hood insulators on top.......still get noise reduction and cover up the ugly hoods. LOL

Is it glued on?.....might have too. The ones I'm familiar with used push pins/clips.....easy pop-off removal.

I have an XJ with it and an MJ without it. Can't tell any difference.
