2016 KJ..55K. So out of nowhere, cruising down I95 ...service transmission msg. First ever. No aparent side effects then jeep would not accel , no downshift with gas. Tranny temp rises quickly with almost no movement. Pulled over for 10 min all normal for 30 miles then same thing. Milked it 100 miles home pulled it over every time tranny started "slipping" found code P0887. Confirmed and permanent. Erased the confirmed...still have the permanent. How do i get rid of that? Will check battery and alt later with meter. Info page shows battery v around 13 while running, about 1/4 inch below 14

So from the internet...common KL fault. P0887. Easily found Jeep Service Bulletin on internet for this fault. Software update fixes 85-90% TCM fixes the other 10% and 1 percent needs tranny work...maybe. My local tranny guy, (never used by me before) was angry because I erased the code even though I gave it to him and it was stored in a permanent file that I could not erase. He then suggested that my filters might be clogged. He could not duplicate, but neither could I after the first day where it failed 4 or 5 times then never again. When he suggested damaged tranny, I went and picked up the jeep immediately. (300Bucks) Took it to Jeep a few days later. The fault was cleared by then, and they also wanted to see it saying that there was more data associated with it...that I can't confirm as accurate. So 400 dollars for diagnostics..nothing found. Then they FOUND the Service Bulletin...Loaded the software (400 Bucks). Took the Jeep on a 250 mile each way trip down to Ocean City and back...no issues at all ...1200 bucks but at least its working for now?
Check your TCM relay and fuse first. P0887 means transmission control module relay sense circuit high usually a bad relay, corroded fuse, or loose battery connection. Permanent code will clear on its own after the problem is fixed and a few drive cycles with no failure. Don’t clear it, fix the cause. Your voltage sounds okay but clean battery terminals anyway. If relay and fuses are good, next likely is TCM power or ground issue, or the TCM itself.

Had battery terminals off all clean and secure. The first tranny shop changed out a tcm ground terminal because it was cheaper than a tcm and they wanted to do something to earn their 300 bucks. ..i saw the old one...clean. And one would think that a bad battery terminals would cause more than a singular one off fault code. Also found out that the tcm power relay is part of the tcm module/ circut board...cannot be changed or inspected individually. Will see what happens in the future
