I have a question about changing the TC oil. Today I just drained and topped my transmission oil on my 2000 XJ 3qrts of dex III. I did not have enough oil left to do the TC. I plan on changing the oil and fillter on the transmission very soon can I do the TC oil then OR should have I done it today?
That's like asking us if you should change your underwear. You're leaving out a lot of valuable information. Have you ever changed your underwear? If so when was the last time you changed your underwear? Is your underwear dirty? If so, why is it dirty?
I think you get my point.

Unless you are having symptoms, you should be okay to wait a bit.
Be sure to use transmission fluid for your transfer case. I use the same fluid I use in the AW4 transmission. Dex/Merc III compatible.

Thank you that's just what I wanted to know. There is no symptoms. I will change it soon when I drain and change filter.

Make sure that both the fill and drain plugs open on the T-case before you do anything. Break them both loose before you drain anything.
A lot of times the drain ones super easy to get loose and the fill isn't. Imagine draining your T-case only to realize you can't get the fill plug loose.

YES. And, have you checked the TC fluid level and condition?
FWIW, save yourself the trouble and just drain and fill the trans a few times as needed til the fluid is the right color. If the oil pan on the trans isn't leaking, you're wasting your time dropping the pan and replacing the SCREEN.

Yep, it's really just a screen inside the tranny, it's not a filter. Save your time and money and just do a few drain and fills with new fluid.

Exactly. I use the Super Tech DexIII Mercon compatible from Walmart. It's about $12/gallon. Works great. My 2001 Tranny shifts perfectly.
