Default Transmission fluid change

My jeep runs just fine but I checked my fluid and it was dirty looking. I want to change it but heard from multiple people that it can make my transmission go out. Is there any truth to this or was I tricked?

The concern would only be related to doing a high-pressure flush of your transmission. Just drain on what's in the pan, then refill with DexronIII/Mercon. Drive 100 miles or so and do it again. Rinse and repeat until it comes out clean.

So I’m fine with doing a regular transmission fluid change?

I just finished my last drain/replenish after a pan drop and screen change. The fluid looks new again. I did that 4 times. Next time you drain the pan recheck those pan bolts. Probably need to be snugged after the gasket relaxes into the initial compression set.

No need to remove the pan to do a normal drain and flush. The "filter" is just a screen that doesn't need replaced. If you do remove the pan, go easy on the screws when you reinstall it as they strip the aluminum threads out pretty easy. 7-10 ft*lbs is plenty of torque, which is nor much more than moderately snug.
