My jeep runs just fine but I checked my fluid and it was dirty looking. I want to change it but heard from multiple people that it can make my transmission go out. Is there any truth to this or was I tricked?

The concern would only be related to doing a high-pressure flush of your transmission. Just drain on what's in the pan, then refill with DexronIII/Mercon. Drive 100 miles or so and do it again. Rinse and repeat until it comes out clean.

So I’m fine with doing a regular transmission fluid change?
I just finished my last drain/replenish after a pan drop and screen change. The fluid looks new again. I did that 4 times. Next time you drain the pan recheck those pan bolts. Probably need to be snugged after the gasket relaxes into the initial compression set.
