Just looking for some advise guys!

I need to either rebuild my transfer case or buy one from a jy.

Found one at a jy for $300 and it has 90K on it. My problem here is mine just went out at 96K, so basically I just have to take a chance if I go this route.

I know someone who will rebuild the case for me if I get the kit, but is rebuilding it worth it? the kits are about $150 I think.

Any advise is helpful!!!

Whats wrong with your case????? 96K is nothing for a T-case. These things are among the most durable parts on a Jeep. If maintained failure is rare.

 

It is shot, I started getting bad vibes yesterday, and I just thought it was the u-joints, and they were starting to get bad, but shouldnt be making vibes like that, so I checked my tranny fluid and it was fine. I then checked the t-case fluid not so good. I was told it should look like red tranny fluid, but it is black and has metal flakes in it. I had no idea that t-case was this messed up, I never do any serious wheeling with it either, its a DD, and the most wheeling it sees is when I go hunting, not sure what would cause this thing to go out in 96k!!!?

 

You probably have a stretched chain and it's clearancing itself by removing material at the bottom of the case. You could rebuild it for about 200 by buying a chain and bearing/seal kit.

Number one reason behind stretched chains is hard acceleration.

 

Thats the thing, I never beat on it. I didnt bring it to college this year and it sat at home for my stepdad to drive, maybe he beat on it.

 

Also when driving, I get it up to 55 mph, and when I let off the gas and coast is when it makes all of the noise, bad vibes and some clanking. Could this be happening because when accelerating the chain has pressure to keep going, but when the pressure is taken off, then the stretched chain bangs around??

I have read up on some write ups and people use wider chains so its stronger and more torque, So if I get this kit, do I go with the recommended 1" wide chain or the 1.25" wide chain for dodge???

 

Actually i think thats correct.

Might want to check with our vendors here about a mastrer rebuild kit.

Stick with the OEM stuff in a stocker... it should last another 100K miles or better.

 

I have plans for a 2" lift and 31's on the jeep, still stick with OEM stuff?, and is the kit that I put on my previous post a kit that I need?

 

The lift is a completly seperate issue from your TC, lifting really has no affect on the TC. no such thing as a OEM 2" lift....
That kit will work if your TC is still in good enough condition to rebuild. You won't know that for sure till you open it up, catch 22 of rebuilding anything.

 

I meant if I plan on lifting it a little bit, to still stick with OEM stock parts for the TC case. Im not that dumb
