Trans wont engage.
Need some help here. Just put my new motor im my cherokee last night and finally got it fired up this morning only to have the tranny not engage into gear to move the xj. Once put into gear it bogs down a bit but nothing moves. It has proper fluid new filter ect... Did notice a small leak from the tranny pan didnt know if that alone could make it not engage or what also i noticed a part on the drivers side part of the frame that has a green colored rubber seal on it that looks like it should fit into the side of the trans. Any ideas what it could be all torque converter bolts are good tight.

first off check to make sure the t case didnt get shifted into neutral if it is un hook a trans line and see if the fluid comes out with pressure when the jeep is running. it does not have to be in gear to check that. If you have no pressure coming out My guess would be that when you pulled the old motor out that the torque converter came unlocked from the trans. In that case you will have to ull the motor or trans to re lock it in. Hope that helps you out some

Did you remove the torque converter from the front of the trans during the swap?

The 4 bolts that hold your flywheel/flexplate to the torque converter.

When I was 17 my dad gave me a `56 Chevy with a blown motor and and working motor from a JY. Middle of winter in a drafty, unheated barn in Wisc. Took me weeks to make the swap.

Back to the trans problem. I found a few grounds that weren't grounded dont imagine a electrical ground could cause the trans to not work but worth asking bout. Also when the jeeps running there is a gurgling noise coming from the trans pan
