The only clear fluid I can think of, besides water, is power steering fluid that is automotive related.

That wouldn't be the worst thing you could stick in there. The only difference is dye and the additive package, but I wouldn't reccomend running it long term or at all if you have a choice.

That Clear ATF is a 'universal' fluid, normally sold in bulk. If the trans was rebuilt that's probably where it came from. They use it in everything, it works long enough to get past the warranty. See Cruiser's advice above...
If the screen was that badly plugged, I'd be curious what with.

Probably with material from the worn out bands. Metal particles too.

Seeing that would immediately tell you that your trans rebuilder is a low-life, and you should take your business elsewhere.
