How many quarts does a aw4 automatic transmission take im just draining and refilling thanks

8.45 Quarts.

Woops. That''s the capacity from the fsm. (total). I might add 5 or 6 then check it. Of course if you replace the same as came out you will be close.

3.75 quarts. Put 3 in, start it and keep checking per the dipstick instructions as you add.

No phit? 3-3/4? So the torque converter holds over 4-1/2.....OK boss!

I've been dripping a quart maybe every 8-10K or so for so long I've never even thought of changing it. It always looks OK. 140k in the last 11 years. Just cleared 270!

I put in just under 4 Qts last time I did a drain and fill and the level was spot on.
