Default a tip and or trick needed

just picked up a 2000 sport 4x4 and noticed that the driver side door locks and window controls work intermittently. Occasionally I have to open and close the door until the wiring wants to cooperate with me to get the doors to lock/windows to move. Anyhow, I sat down last night and squeezed the black boot until the little green lights would come on, and stay on so I know the short is somewhere in that section. My question is this; how do I get this rubber piece off without cutting it off, or without taking the door off? I get the feeling I will have to cut the piece off to get in there, I just don't want to have to do that... Any tips or tricks on how to get the piece off w/o cutting or taking the door off?

Take the door panel off, unplug the wiring from the connetions, pull wiring through hole in door, and slide boot off wiring.

Just pull it out of the socket. It will come out and just put it back in when your done with the wiring.

Not hard at all, there is access points under the panel to pull everything through

You could do that too, but may not yield enough room to correct bad wiring

Definitely not going to be enough room. Pulling the door off may be my only choice.

i pulled the panel off, unplugged all the sockets, and fed the wire through the door, but where the short is i can't get my fat hands in there to properly cut the wire to replace that section. i'll live with it for a while until i can get the door pulled off completely to get a more head on attack on the harness.

Did you untape the harness and check the wiring, that whole harness should detach at the driver kick panel (remove that) and you can fully inspect the wiring...sometimes the wires may start to bend and later break completely from the door opening and shutting

hmm, i will definitely have to check that out. I presume the short is in the harness closer to where it goes into the kick panel after playing around with it some more. I will take a look at that this evening. Thanks for the tip.
