Default Engine flooding issue...

Okay so here we go again... My jeep originally was stuck in mud I have replaced the ECU so now she will crank I have changed all fluids. She will struggle hard to crank after 20 minutes of hitting the ignition on and off when she finally cranks it drives like a charm and obviously you can smell gas. But she drives great but when I cut it off and it sits a few minutes she will not crank and now you can smell gas she will sputter at times then shut off just like its flooding out I just tried new injectors and same as before... Any ideas?

When you state "crank" you mean the engine turns over, correct? Any codes? Have you replaced the TPS with a MOPAR part?

I can get it to crank and run and ill go drive it around my area but when I cut it off it won't crank back up and it will start to "sputter" and then cut off. Have not replaced TPS. And no codes it's an 89 so no check engine light. Pre OBD1.

I like that!!

So, we have a crank-no start for 20 minutes when cold and right after shutting it off, right?

OP: Test your CPS.

Would be a great idea to click on the "pink link" in my signature and get your grounds refreshed, along with your connectors. I suggest starting with 1,3,4 and 7.

I replaced the CPS about 8 months ago with an OEM sensor I did take it off and clean in off just to make sure.

If i disconnect my exhaust at the trans cross member and go to start it a un identifiable liquid comes out and I have a little puddle under their. might be gas but its kind of hard to tell. once its going it actually runs better than it has in the year I have owned the jeep. shut it off it goes to crap again and i tried and tried to turn it back over...at times it will fire up and get a little over 1000 RPM and then shut off when i hit the gas. Im not a mechanic but it smells and seems like flooding but not sure. Would my Fuel pressure regulator be bad and sending to much fuel?

Could be. Soaked connectors and poor grounds need to be addressed.

Take care of your grounds and connectors and quit throwing parts at it.

Cruiser knows his Renix stuff. I would try what he says.

Is there any way we could throw up a sticky for proper terms and the context they should be used in when trying to diagnose engine issues? I have seen quite a bit of diagnostic time wasted because readers dont understand the situation.

That would be great. You're nominated to do it. All in favor, respond "Aye".

LOL. And yes, I agree. We should have something to post right up front into a thread when asked like this thread started.

I just did the AC volt test on the jeep it was bouncing between .3 and .4 when trying to tart it. This sensor is 8 months old and came from jeep... When I got home to do the test my jeep fired up and ran. So does this sound like a CPS problem? It was completely submerged in the mud hole for about 20 mins.

Kinda low. Clean your connectors. Change your gas if you wanna.
