hey gang, have a 99 with 4.0, ran perfect thurs am, thurs pm battery was about dead,but would not start with jumpers,also noticed that fuel guage was not moving at all from mt. thought maybe fuel sensor was out of it, added abt 5 gals of fuel..no change..will turn over but not start. wondering if battery just doesnt have enough power to run computer, even with jumpers! anyone have any thoughts? idiot lights are coming on as usual but no fuel guage??

 

Yank the battery and go have it tested, I'd start there

 

i would start with having the battery tested like they said above. but i would also clean any and all battery connections. Positive and ground side. Also check your battery cables as they can corrode inside the sheathing and be unseen. A good way to check is to test voltage at the battery. then test voltage at the starter to see how big of a drop there is. That will get you started on diagnostics.

 

Yea have battery tested. Also check the grounds for the dash and engine, battery etc. check the battery terminals clean em a lil. For it to not be able to get jumper could mean that battery is beyond lost and you'll need another one. These are the easiest things to check

Since it won't run even with a jump, check fuses or fusible link.

If the easy things check out, you might be looking at a fuel pump. I think on the 99 the in tank level indicator and pump are one unit. Got to love Ethenol gas, its killing fuel pumps left and right.
