Default Swapping JUST the tach?

My 96's , auto with cruise tachometer is sticking now and then.
Nothing is wrong mechanically with the jeep or motor or wiring.
I've traced it to the gauge itself.
My cluster is the one with a nondigital odometer, no idiot lights, actual gauges like this:

temp.............................................. .........oil
.............tachometer..........speedometer
gas............................................... ..........voltage

Is it possible to swap another tach from a similar cluster without swapping the entire cluster, and if so , how?

You may be able to but I'm sure it would be a pita though. Perhaps an aftermarket gauge?

I'm kind of heading where this guy went. He's swapping in to an older cluster, although I'm just replacing.

Mine look slike the 2nd pic. Next pic is the tach out.
Wondering what the process is i.e. soldering, unplug or unscrew, etc...

Yes it is. Pull cluster. Remove clear bezel.

Turn over cluster. Locate 3 or 4 screws behind tach. Remove screws. Then reverse.

It's super simple.

And it just plugs in to a connector?
Do I need to pull the dash trim, steering shaft cover etc?

Since the 96 has the chrysler column, removing the dash bezel is a pain. Tilt the column all the way down, take the screws out, and pull like hell until it comes off. The plastic shroud around the column will break before the dash bezel but if you do it right, it should pop out.
