I have a '90 with the mechanical speedo and big gas gauge. I now have a cluster from a '91 with the electronic connections on the cluster, so not a straight over swap of the clusters. If I remove the tach out of the newer one, can I install it into my older mechanical cluster?? The tach removes with only 3 screws and has only 3 connections, ignition, ground and positive I believe. Possible to install it straight forward like an aftermarket unit or will there be issues??

thanks, still in the process of finishing it up. Just trying to decide if I can really use this tach or if I need to buy an aftermarket one. I can get one cheap since I work at Advance Auto and know some people who have spares. I think I might be able to make this one work. Trying to keep it stock and nice looking since I will be driving it as my DD for a little bit.

I would DEFINITELY love to get an update on this when you get it done!!! I have a '90 that has the ginormous gas gauge as well. Dying to put the newer style tach on.
