I never said that lifter tick didn't exist, I said it was very common, and generally is no cause for concern other than its noisy. There are dozens of different ways people have quieted it down, from changing to a different oil, to using additives like Seafoam, Marvel Mystery oil, Lucas, etc, what works for some people doesn't work for others, sometimes it quiets the noise for good, sometimes just for awhile then it comes back, and some 4.0s seem to tick no matter what you do, yet they still run great for thousands of miles like that. Switching to 15w40 quieted it down some for me.

OP, I'd listen to Cruiser on this one. He has WAY more experience with Jeep engines than any of us here. Yeah, that kinda comes with being one of the head guys at a Jeep dealer/Service shop and having your hands on every Jeep engine and model of Jeep before a majority of us here were even able to walk.

LOL!! The meme just happened to have the word "argument" in it. Sorry Snowflake.
Just understand this:
There are many other folks who have much greater common Jeep knowledge and personal experience with Jeeps than yourself.
Nothing was altered or taken out of context. Turbo XJ did a fine job of itemizing your quotes. It seems you are the only one who doesn't get it, but shot from the hip, crappy suggestions and recommendations are not tolerated well around here. We have an obligation to provide sound info and suggestions to our members and guests.
That's what sets us apart from other forums.
So, be prepared for a barrage of crap when you hastily submit responses. It ain't just me that notices it so don't act like I'm picking on you. Read the other comments in teh thread.......
2000 XJ stock. Got a sewing machine thumping click on start up, sounds like a loud chug, goes away after it warms up. Tried Seafoam 1/3rd intake, third crank and a third gas, also did spark plugs. Still making that awful noise. Beside just replacing lifter any advice?

Exactly. Let's get to the problem.
OP, please excuse the bump in the road in your thread.
Unfortunately, the loss of the thread starter is usually the result of what happened here.
Myself and others have been down the same road you have with ticks. With a few answers from you, we can guide you to a solution.

My 2000 4.0 sat for a few months, ran fine one day and a week later started chugging, misfiring, wouldn't rev and generally ran crappy. After 2 months of weekends changing plugs, wires, injectors and anything else i thought of I finally popped the valve cover. I found 2 bent push rods. I swapped then with some spares, fired it up, ran smooth for 30 seconds and crapped out again. I ended up pulling the head and found 7 stuck valves from the awesome ethanol gas we have. I wire wheel cleaned all the valves, lapped them in and installed new guide seals. Runs smooth now.
