Default Rust starting inside oil pan??

In the middle of changing RMS and oil pan gasket.

I’ve heard of rust on the outside of the oil pan but how about this?

Cleaned the inside and outside of the pan with degreaser, rinsed and let it air dry multiple times.

I’ve heard to paint the inside but is that pointless?

Flash rust, most likely, just like the steel does in our shop if we power wash the factory/mill oil film off of the parts. Wipe it down with motor oil and forget about it. I wouldn't paint the inside of an oil pan. When the paint peels, ("when" not " if") where is it going to go? Right to the intake screen of the oil pump.

Cleaning with degreaser and wiping with oil as mentioned is fine. DO NOT PAINT IT, the paint will never hold up. As oldnslow mentioned, it will peel off and that won't be a good situation.

I've heard you should replace the pan before it rusts through. It doesn't look horrible at all. Clean it up best you can and keep an eye on it.
