Rotella: The world's first ever combined hair oil, foot ointment, and salad dressing
Just spent some time reading all these post. I have the 1989 Cherokee 4.0 L.
It has 125,000 miles on it now.
I like the info Salad and I appreciate your time.
My question is on start up, especially in the morning, I can't stand the noise.
Sound like a rod knock and then it goes away. Been using M1 0W30 during the Montana winter. It screws on pointing down and the filter is black from O'Riellys.
After the start it's quiet. Do you think it's the filter or is the engine shot?
Would the T6 & Wix filter make any difference?
Thanks~John

John, try this and then report back.
When it starts up and ticks, shut it off. Wait 10 seconds and restart it. Is the tick gone?

Do I have to come back here and kick a few *****? If you don't like Rotella, don't use it! If you want to debate on oils, bring your research to the table as others have. If not, move on.
Only the ****-about-oil-too-much-free-time wannabe petroleum engineers or those that believe that a special oil will fix their toasted engines want to debate about oils. The rest of us are just observing the insanity and offering our derisive commentary.

lol
Look chief, here's the deal:
People - me included - want to know what the difference is between oils. There's a difference. So, I did some research and presented it.
If you have a problem with someone saying that "A and B are not alike because X" I don't know what you should do with your life, but might I suggest something more productive than posting inane "COMPARING THINGS IS POINTLESS BECAUSE I DON'T PERSONALLY APPROVE OF IT". Your mindless quacking is irritating to those of us trying to have a discussion. Perhaps an MBA is more your speed.

First off, as a certified automotive engineer, NO oil will fix a toasted engine. But certain blends of oils will offer a cushion to prolong it untill proper repairs can be made or the engine grenades itself. But this is not a place to bash others studies or finds. I myself find their time to do their research and present their findings commendable and enjoyable to read. As have others who have shown what they know of other brands. I personally use Lucas products (as they are free to me) or Valvoline. Doesn't mean I will bash Rotella because I don't use it. Civility goes a long way here. If the ******tery shall continue, a mass sweeping shall commence.

Of course there's a difference with oil. I've seen many different oils. Rolled them between my fingers. There's a difference on consistency for sure

Okay, here's what you do: Get those ruby red shoes on, and click your heels together, then close your eyes.....

Please don't share details of your personal life here, okay?
I just did my last oil change with Valvoline. I'll save what I have left for the mowers.
Not that I don't like Valvoline, but I'm switching to Rotella on my Jeeps for all the reasons discussed here, and as a bonus, it's the recommened oil for my truck (diesel) and will work well in the family van, too. I like simplicity, and having one oil for all my vehicles is simplicity.
It's also a bonus that the van and the Jeeps take the same filter, too. Now if I could just talk my truck into taking the same filter we'd be one big happy uniform family.
