Oooho Q&A Time? Sweet.
If we're running a replaceable cartridge (Frantz) type filter, is it OK to put used toilet paper in there or does it have to be new? How about if we re-roll it nice and tight first?

So, yeah, Rotella T6 is awesome stuff....I already run it in my turbocharged Miata, and my 3 sport touring motorcycles...and its dirt cheap compared to what I was paying for my full synthetic oil changes!

Take the cardboard roll and chew it for five minutes to perforate it, use that instead. TP won't hold up to the pressure and will blow out - you don't want to ruin your engine, do you?

Salad you get an A++ Excellent research! There are plenty of opinions on this and other forums but that are all they are. Without data it is just another opinion.
Fleet/tractor/industrial is an excellent choice for the 4.0. Not only Rotella (my preference) but any cj-4...walmart,tractor supply are good budget alternatives. In my climate 15-40 is good all year long. In choosing viscosity use the average winter temperature in your area. If temps drop below that once in awhile its not the end of the world.

Excellent read I have ran it in my diesel trucks and JD tractors for over 30 years. For over 20 yrs. have ran Valvoline Syn 20-50 in all my race cars from strip to circle track.
It looks like I will be changing brands in my XJ thanks.

Great, now there's going to be a run on T6 and the price will skyrocket, shelves will be empty and grown men will punch each other in the head for it. Don't get punched in the head. Don't buy T6.

Man what an interesting read. Thanks for taking the time putting this together as it's very informative and helpful. I used to work at a full service Shell station back in the day and we had a garage/mechanic. I remember the mechanic swearing by Rotella T. I was surprised when I stopped in the same station recently and found that they don't even stock the stuff anymore! We used to have tons of Rotella on the shelves when I worked there.

Salad! You-da-man!
Great read although I think I'll need another cup of coffee and re-read it a bit closer; there is a lot of information there.
Thanks for sharing your oil knowledge base with us.
