Most forums are biased one way or the other. I have always used what the P.o. Ran in used vehicles, not always the same brand though. It's pretty much universally accepted knowledge that this is the safest route to go.

OK, I'm in.
I just finished reading this great and informative thread.
I have been committed to Mobil 1 since it came out IIRC back in the late 70's.
I can't remember ever buying anything else, except occasionally High Mileage Mobil 1.
For the XJs, I have been using Mobil 1 and Bosch oil filters and changing them every 5000 miles or so.
It looks like there is a 'New Sheriff in Town' Rotella T6 and his 'Deputy' NAPA 1459.
I think that I will go out today and change the oil and filter in my 3 XJs and my high mileage commuting car '99 Taurus with 172k. I am impressed enough with all the info in this thread to do this change.
Thanks for the info.

I work at autozone, it's not the Rotella T6 that we had on sale, it was the regular Rotella T, 15w40 conventional and it was for sale for $13.99, but it isn't anymore. The only way they make T6 is in 5w40, or in some colder states, 0w40 I believe.

So to avoid the possible noise making from switching to rotella t6 because it's a detergent ,maybe just seafoam before your next change an switch over?

I'd pass on any 15WXX oil.
