The detergents probably cleaned out the slude n grime which acted like a cushion. Diesel oil is great for cleaning dirty engines due to the high detergent levels.

I switched from conventional 5w30 to Rotella T6, and the difference was quite incredible. My 4.0 has none of that top-end noise anymore and runs smooth! I was so impressed that I swapped 10w30 dino for the T6 5w40 in my daily driver, which is a 24 year old Mazda 2.2 4-cylinder. Same results--runs super smooth compared to before and no more top-end noise. The Mazda 2.2s are known for an occasional loud tapping of the hydraulic lash adjusters at startup, especially after sitting for a day or two--that hasn't happened since I switched. Very happy with the Rotella.

Correct. Most parts stores don't sell single quarts of T6 but Walmart does. Or you can buy two gallons and save half for your next oil change. 3 gallons = two changes

Yeah the giant slug of moly in PYB makes it a pretty nifty oil. I'd consider running it if I didn't have 15L of T6 in my shed lol. I've recently acquired a TDI that basically requires the stuff so... eh...

You not running the delo this summer? I was actually curious about the synthetic delo 400 and if its any different than the conventional delo 400(other than being a synthetic)

I've got the Royal Purple data at home, I've had a LOT going on personally so haven't had the time to work on this lately. From what I remember it's a great oil, but very expensive. Don't see much of a point in a non-racing engine.

I was going to run Delo 400 LE which is a conventional 15w40. Turns out NOBODY here sells Chevron products.

I'll see if I can dig something up on the syn stuff for you.

I switched from 5w30 Dino to t6 and picked up a bunch of noise. I'm considering switching back to 5w30 Dino bc I did notice a slight drop in mileage, it's cheaper, and quieter.

As stated before Diesel oil is high in detergents as it was made for "dirty" engines. If your vehicle is a high mileage vehicle, it will clean out the engine including the "cushion" left behind from using conventional oils for so long. So I'm not knocking or bashing Rotella or Diesel oil, just stating that some higher mileage engines can experience your symptoms. It's a 50/50 shot of whether you get it or not. But the bright side is your engine is now clean. Lol

And even if you switch back to the oil you were using the noise will probably still be there.
