Default Power steering pump pulley knock?

My power steering pump pulley has been chirping for a while, all of a sudden I start the jeep and I get this crazy knocking sound that I thought was a broken piston. However there is power steering fluid being flung off the belt and the sound appears to be coming from the power steering pump pulley. Anybody else have this?

The bearings have most likely self-destructed. Same thing happened to me a few months ago on a road trip.

Got a reman from the closest parts store that turned out to be junk. Then I got a NEW PS pump, complete with pulley and reservoir, and all is well.

Lawsoncl is right!
But also Check your pulley where the belt goes around it.
They sometimes crack at that point, and will toss your belt off.
most of the time the crack is pretty hard to see, so inspect it carefully.

Beware, if the pump goes bad and metal bits are shed, those bits will find their way into the gear box and destroy it too. If the steering fluid has metal in it, stop driving till repaired else gear maybe ruined too. Flush the gear box with clean fluid before running new pump.

Install a filter on the return line to the pump.
