Default Power Steering Pump Pully

I just bought a 1998. Owned a 2001 in the past. Anyway putting in a new radiator, belt, and idler pulley and noticed this crack in the power steering pump pulley. Is this normal? Do I need a new power steering pump? The pulley looks like it is pressed on not a bolt on.

That's not normal... However you can get just the pulley. They come apart.

The pump shaft has a 3/8" hex in the center. The pulley doesn't just screw off i don't think. I just checked the local salvage yard, online. They have a pump for $40. I assume it comes with the pulley. I may just do that since "town" is 30 miles away. ie. multiple trips.

Your pulley is fine!
That is not a crack. It is made with that groove there.
A lot of P/S pulleys I have seen are made like that from the factory.

I believe most, if not all OE metal pulleys have this groove.
I don't think the plastic pulleys have it.

Go for it but see if you can determine if any residual fluid in the reservoir is really dark, like black. If so don't get it.

Here's my '96

If you look closely at how the metal pulley is made, the grooved part is actually a strip that is added to the pulley hub. The "Crack" is actually the gap where the two ends of the strip meet.

that should not be there. I have worked on cars for years. That needs to be replaced. It will chew up a belt. Go to a parts store and look at a new pulley. It won't have that crack.

Nonsense! All the ones I have seen have this groove

Go check your factory pulley? If it's metal, I guarantee it will have the gap. It's how they are made.

The new ones at the parts store are not made the same. They are molded plastic.

I've gotten metal ones from parts stores for years... The new ones don't have that crack was is supposing there from factory for a reason. Buy a new pulley. Simple. As. That.
