Post please help ! oil gushed out

I just did an oil change - 98 xj 4.0

6 qts castrol hi mi, napa gold 1085.

As soon as i started it and backed it off the ramps, all of the oil poured out of somewhere and i can't figure out where why or how.

Not the dipstick, not the drain plug, not the filler hole. I thought maybe the old filter gasket is still on there, but the oil looks like it leaked from further up front and the filter isn't really wet.

To give you an idea of where it poured from, its all over the tie rod, drag link, etc.

What happened ? Any ideas? Im stuck here

Is it dry on the front of the oil filter adapter? If not the o-ring/o-rings on the filter adapter may have blown.

You may have to clean it off, add more oil, and watch while a helper starts the engine.

Make sure that you didn't snap off the oil pressure switch just above the oil filter. Also are you sure that the old oil filter rubber gasket came off with the old filter?

Did you break the oil pressure sending while changing the filter?

Another vote for the oil pressure sensor being damaged

Yup. Oil pressure switch is probably broken off.

Did you wipe some oil on the new filter's oring? Over tightening the filter with a dry oring will distort the oring and cause the oil to gush out.
