Default Not engaging into gear

1991 Jeep Cherokee automatic with a 98 motor. I can hear the flexplate rattle and know it needs replacement. I put it into any gear and it won't go, the engine just revs up and it won't move. The CPS sensor is fairly new and I don't think it's the problem if even at all. Any ideas why it won't go in any gear? Just the flexplate or maybe the torque converter? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again in advance.

Is there fluid in the transmission? Condition? Has it ever worked?

Different vehicle, very different transmission. Try the Grand Cherokee section.

Just put in new fluid and filter, this problem started before the fluid flush, and it's still going on now.

Here's something you might want to do since the flesplate has been rattling:

new fluid and filter after water got in it think that the torque convertor is bad from the water was making noise when water was in it but if I shut off the jeep for about 5 mins and start it back up and put it in to drive it will go foward on its own but when i push on the pedal it slips in all gears and wont even act like it is in gear please help

Those transmissions are notoriously bad, water may have killed it or you may not have completely flushed it. Try the Grand Cherokee section, no Cherokee ever came with a 42RE.

Did you fudge up the filter seal when you changed the filter? If so it won't build any line pressure and won't move.
