If you've never done it and dont' have all the tools that make it easy, 8 hours labor.

It can be a pain, just make sure you label everything or know where it all goes when you put it back together.

i have a 90 xj and the person i got it from put a motor out of a 96 grand cherokee but left the stupid renix system in it...so u can put any motor that is a 4.0 straight 6 i think not 100 percent sure..everything around it should bolt right up

Thats moving from a Renix system to a non renix system. I'm not familiar with the differences, but I know alot of the main components are involved.

i found out the difference is the 87 has a distributer, and the newer motors have a coil pack.
i found a cheep motor out of a 2000 xj, could i switch from a distributer to a coil pack to make it work?

The 87's aren't the only ones that had distributers. All the 4.0s were that way til 98-99ish.

Its my understanding it'll depend on which ECU/PCM you keep, but I could be wrong on that. I'm thinking there may be a bit more involved, though.
