Default balance tires with BB's?

anybody heard of balancing your tires with airsoft BB's? or metal BB's? anybody running tires like that? i know its popular with the larger size tires but will it work as well with a 31? dont want to get em mounted up and it not work. looking at getting some new tires, already have a thread on that but i figured a new thread would be helpful to others searching.

i believe its like the 6 ounce air soft bb's that you can use, and your correct in that its meant for larger tires, usually used in commercial applications i.e. semis, ect.
with a 31'' tire id use the standard lead weight but its really up to you. i asked my buddy at les schwab about them when i got my 32's and he said "they work just fine, but so do the lead weights." so with that said i just didnt see the point....

^ good thread....not much of a rock crawler so never considered some of the reasons to NOT use lead weights i.e. airing down and the rim spinning on the rim, throwing the tire off balance

i've got 8oz of copper bb's in each of the wifey's 33 inch trxus. it helped, but could probably use more like 32oz.

throw in a couple oz of anti-freeze coolant in there as well. apparently it helps keep the bbs cool so they don't melt into the tire.

it's cool to hear the swoosh of the bb's when you come to a stop.

was gonna use golf ***** in my 36's, but seemed to drive fine without anything.

go for it, i don't think you can actually use too many, they will just divide themselves evenly no matter how many are in there. better too many than not enough.

this thread totally caught my eye, i've never heard of using BB's to balance tires! Makes sense though, and the coolant thing sounds like a good idea too. I'll have to give it a shot sometime!

what do you mean by anti freeze coolant? like what kind? and the whole point of using the BBs is that going to get my tires balanced gets on my nerves, and how cool is it to be able to say you have self balancing tires?

I am running 8oz. of Daisy polished BBs in each of my 31's. I recently had one of my tires off after probably 5,000 miles of running it with the BBs and saw no adverse effects inside the tire. I would say to go for it and don't look back.

i know this may sound stupid to you guys, but when you say ounces is that in volume or weight? i figured it was in weight but want to make sure

also would you use the airsoft BBs/metal BBs or the dynabeads?

we use balancing beads all the time. mostly for 35" and up tires. but they work great as long as you use the right amount.
