Getting back to original question. I have been running rotella 15/40 because it has more zinc like the oil had years back. I'm not a oil specialist but have been told and read that zinc is needed with flat tappet lifters. The car companies had to comply to stricter smog laws and that is the main reason behind oil companies removing most of the zinc from modern oil. Another thing worth mentioning is I was told that fram filters are not good for high mileage motors and since been using puraltor Not sure if they meant all frams it seems that they have 4 different ones now but hell puralators are cheap.

Don't over complicate it.
DON"T believe it. Look into some of the independent test done on oil filters and see the differences. Some filters carrying different names ARE made by the same manufacturers, but to the ordering companies specs and can be very different. I had always used Fram filters until I bought my first Cummins diesel and read to NEVER use Fram as the filter media was coming apart and clogging piston cooling nozzles, which caused major engine damage. After I saw some of the independent tests I NO LONGER USE ANY FRAM FILTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NAPA filters are excellent filters by the way.

I've been looking into the zinc problem lately as most of my vehicles have flat tappet cams. My cousin, who runs a fleet of over the road trucks by the way, swears by Lucas. If it has zinc in it, I don't think it would hurt to go ahead and use it. I know we've been seeing alot of flat tappet cams with lobes going flat lately, so there must be something to the argument to add back the zinc that the oil companies take out. I use synthetic oils exclusively in all my vehicles, to include transmissions, transfer cases and drive axles. But there is nothing wrong with good dino oils. I have seen power and fuel mileage increases though with synthetics. Not enough to make up the cost difference, but it's a nice plus. Don't try a synthetic until you get any leaks fixed though. Synthetics exacerbate leaks.

I replaced the leaking hose tonight and it seems as if everything is working properly now.
I'll do another oil change in a few weeks after pay day and hope she goes problem free for a few months.
