How hard is it to replace? I just changed the oil and it over heated again.

If you can change your oil, you can change your thermostat. Super easy and super cheap, dont forget a new gasket for it. I have faith

On a scale where an oil change is a 1, the T-Stat is a 2, very easy. My Blonde daughter can do hers in less than 30 minutes. My brunette daughter can't check her own oil.

well if you have a closed radiator system in your jeep id start buy checking your coolant level and notice if the pressure cap is wet around it if so u might need to replace ur cap or your plastic bottle if your coolant is getting alil low your jeep will wanna run hot and over heat especialy if u have the regular thermo i put in a balanced thermo where as the older stock one will allow 3-5 degrees hot or cold difference before it does anything so the manafacture claim and claim the balanced help take strain off the water pump as well so is claimed the one i got was a 195 temp. also make sure u pickup some gasket cement 2 seal the deal.

ill say this it is a pain on a closed system to get it to burp once u go to replace the thermo u might as well flush and add fresh anti freeze but getting air out of the system is not instant. but it is not hard to get at the drain plug just take off the front grill and on the lower left hand side of the radiator is the plug however they are easy to cross thread while putting it back in i tryed not to pull it all the way out and let it drain

wow 90% of that went over my head. I have no idea if I have a closed radiator system. I changed the oil and antifreeze 2 days ago because I thought that was my over heating problem. It had almost no oil and what it did have looked like rust (i took the receipt and guys word that he had just changed it. I bought her a month ago)
I got the thermostat replaced and took it up for a test drive. It did not fix my problem she got really hot. Got home, lifted the hood. and the leaky hose was staring me straight in the face. I had looked 4 times earlier today as i gimped her home.
I'll get that fixed tomorrow and move on to the u-joint. at least i hope that's what this next problem i'm having is...
thanks so much everyone for all your help. it only took me 3 hours to change the thermostat cause I put the gasket on the wrong side the first time since there wasn't one when i took it off and had a hell of a time dealing with the belt in the way and not having the right tools.

basicly i was saying on my cherokee 88-89 i think up till 91 they used what is called a closed system where u dont have an overflow bottle and a seperate radiator and cap it would be a pressurized bottle like mine where u add the antifreeze 2 which is prone to leaking after 20 something years. but you have fixed your problem it seems so this info shouldent matter to you. hopefully your heat still works correctly like normal as air gets trapped inside the system untill burped out usaully after u drain and change thermos

I replaced the leaking hose tonight and it seems as if everything is working properly now.
I'll do another oil change in a few weeks after pay day and hope she goes problem free for a few months. Well other than that u-joint.
