I had never done an oil change before and just wanted to be sure on the amount of oil.

My pressure gauge was all over the place today but it did not get hot and I checked it a few times and my level was ok.

yea its best to just do it yourself and u know its done. maybe a quart of motorflush in the oil, runnin at idle for 15 minutes before u change it might be good. guys any opinions on this?

i'm not brave enough to take it on the highway just yet but driving around town it's over heating (25-40mph). It hasn't done it while idling that i've noticed. I've had it running for awhile looking for the leak that i just noticed today and it hasn't got hot so i'd say no.

I put a quart of MMO (Marvel Mystery Oil) in Ruby about 1,000 miles before an oil change (By then she's leaked enough oil to need it) Seems to do no harm. Is it REALLY doing ANYTHING? Now that's a mystery, but she tells me she likes it so I give it to her...

My radiAtor was shot causing it to overheat when under high demand (hwy speeds). Would idle all day no prob. Leak in the hose wouldnt make it over heat. You put the tstat in the right way? Easy mistake to make. I did it.

well I bought her a month ago and can't believe ANYTHING the man told me (said he was getting 35mpg. with a leaking fuel line!) but up until two weeks ago when she over heated on my way home from work i haven't had this problem and i've driven her quite a bit on the highway. I put it in the way I took the old one out and even had a neighbor that's helped with everything else (power steering pump, rear brakes, fuel line, oil change) come check and said everything looked good to him. How much is that gonna cost me if that's the case?

its a failsafe thermostat, if it goes bad it will stay open,so the coolant doesent stop flowing. you'll just get less heat if it happens in the winter.

Wait a minute. How the hell is a leak in my hose causing it to over heat so badly? I drove it yesterday around town after the oil change with no problem then today it over heated same as 2 weeks ago. Something is not adding up here for me.

The leak in the hose causes a loss of pressure in the cooling system. Which in turn causes the jeep to run hotter

Make sure that there is enough coolant in the coolant resivour(wrong spelling) when she is cold in the morning. Did you bleed all the air out of the system when refilling after changing the thermostat? You should have put 3 gallons of coolant/water mixture to get her full. My guess is a clogged radiator. If its a auto transmission, and the stock radiator from factory, it should be brass. Brass radiators can be heated up, end caps pulled off, rod out each coolant passage and flush, and then re-Soldiered back together for next to no money. Or you can buy a new one for around $150 with a warranty of some kind. I bet that will cure her overheat issue. You want a good radiator for summer coming up. I live in Wenatchee, Wa and know how hot it can get out here. A 4.0 can take alot, but the least amount of overheat time the better.
