Loud pop when put in drive

Default Loud pop when put in drive

On my 88 cherokee when I put it into drive it makes a loud pop but there is no play in the u joint...is it possible it is still the u joint or am I lookin at a problem in the transfer case

Did you check the joint while it was attaches to the Rear end. REMOVE the drive shaft and recheck the joint. 5 minute and a 5/16 socket, and you'll know.

sounds like a u-joint...is the pop like a popping free sound? my 3500 does this when it sits for a couple days u joint is prolly shot

Jack up the rear end then put it in N and then check for play. Note there will be some play in the t-case and some in the rear axle but I bet with the shaft able to move freely you will see play in the u-joint ether on the top or bottom end of the shaft.

I've noticed that it manly only does it when I reverse the put it in drive...does that make it lean towards transfer case or still most likely u-joints
