Loud Clacking sound on cold start-up twice
Didn't go away until I shut it off and restarted it.
Does it sometimes after sitting overnight.
Running heavier oil than normal due to 261K miles. 20-50 vs 10-30
Is it a stuck lifter or lifter not pumping up ?
Don't remember this happening when I ran 5 QTS 10-30 mixed with 1 QT Lucas. Scared me ! Runs fine !

Sticky lifter for sure.
Oil is too heavy, and Lucas is not good to use.
Switch to a 10-30 and use a Wix filter. If it persists, let us know.
And, if it does it any more, be sure to shut it right off and re-start instead of leaving it clacking away.

Thanks....I will switch back to 10-30 next week. I use Purolator filters. Are they OK ?
WIX 51626 O'REILLY Looks like the anti-drain back and bypass is better on WIX
Yes....I shut it right off but it was still scary.

in maine i run 10-40 year round with napa gold oil filters. i believe wix makes them for napa. when below zero, oil light stays on for a second or two after starting.

The first time was Atlanta In 1969 and the last time was sometime in the early 80's.
We always called his car the "Percolating Mercury".
He was (is) one of the all time greats.
