Default babypoo green substance

Just looked at a Cherokee at a dealership for a friend and pop the radiator cap and its a babypoo green substance in there. Also no heat. And temp gauge was showing 215 and cap and upper hose had absolutely no pressure. Put a gallon of coolant in it and still not gurguling or anything. Anyone have any input?

dried coolant is kind of dusty yellowish like hay/straw, it can look like what you describe when it mixes with fresh coolant

lots of XJs out there with no coolant in the heater lines (the coolant passages were blocked shut on my beater when I got it)

the part that really bothers me is that you say you dumped a gallon in it and saw nothing, the whole system only takes 2 gallons so that is pretty low

Yeah that's what I thought. It almost looked like oil. But all the way up there?

And what's blowing my mind is that it wasn't overheating. We should of checked the oil but we saw that and said nope lol

With coolant that low I wouldn't trust the temp gauge - the sensor might well be sitting in an air lock.

Coolant in the oil and oil in the coolant = cracked head and/or blown head gasket. No heat = clogged or bad heater core.
