An early model Bronco 60-late 70 ran a dana 30 or a dana 44 front axle "If I remeber right.." I think they were about the right width to work in a XJ but it would still need to have some cutting and welding to work... They ran Lockouts and a 5X4.5 bolt pattern...
The last time i looked up the kits (A few years ago) The changed the front bolt pattern to 5X5... Not sure if still true or not...

The Ford Bronco II and Ranger went to the smaller bolt pattern and smaller locking hubs and are the basis for the XJ locking hub conversion. Those hubs are very weak. You're better off with the stock XJ unit bearings.

The first gen Bronco ran a front Dana 44 with a 5 on 5.5" pattern. The CJ ran a Dana 30 with the same 5 on 5.5" pattern. Starting with the XJ and then the YJ they went to the 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern.

A little bit of research says that they started with the Dana 30. But then they switched to the Dana 44 in 1971. So some first gen Broncos had the D44 but not all of them.

Regardless, I believe they kept the 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern with either the Dana 30 or Dana 44.

They did. Wished I had one. I think they offered that as an option in 1970. But mine was the stripped down version with the light duty axle and bearings. Lost two rear wheel bearings from hard use
