Who has this done? Have you beefed the axle up in any way? Have you broken anything?

yup, thats why i bought my mickey thompson classic locks. i had a spare of soft 8's and ran them for awhile and my get up and mpg was terrible. i'm fine now. when i weighed it it was a 13lb difference between the two.
although soft 8's are really cheap.....i paid $151 a wheel for the M/T's

I really want to go with 35's geared and locked, but dont want to change out the 8.25. I noticed everyone say's 33's locked and 35's open diff. So I am trying to determine if its the physical mass of the wheel/tire combo or the diameter of the tire that stresses out the axle to the point the c-clip goes or the axle snaps. I know I can get a 35"/wheel combo that actually weight the exact same as my current tire/wheel set-up.

try and sell it man or pull the guts out for spares. id do that you can run 35s locked and wheel it no problem. i have a buddy that ran 35s and wheeled it locked like a buggy for a while. had no problems at all. snapped a couple shafts but you have two extras now!!

I have steel wheels, 35" super swamper SSR's and an aussie locker on a stock 29 spline 8.25. Its been that way since 2007. I drive hard and have not had a problem yet (knock on wood).

My 8.25 has 4.88's and a Powertrax No-Slip in it and its been holding up find to my 35's. I did notice my Powertrax is missing a tooth but it doesn't seem to affect it and it hasn't broken yet so I'm not overly worried about it.
