Default JK Shocks on stock XJ

I just bought some JK shocks to use with my lift im putting together. My luck I bought these shocks 3 hours before I ended up having emergency surgery to remove my appendix. Obviously it will take time till I think I can try to break loose all of the probable stuck bolts so I was wondering if the JK shocks would be to long to run on stock height since thats something that doesnt seem to be to much strain to do. Im only 17 so hopefully Ill be back to normal and modding the jeep quickly.

Well i dont see why you would put them on while you're stock.. Just wait until you get the lift for it.

Well wouldnt you hate to blow out your new shocks too? The fronts might work, the rear are going to be too long. I've got them on mine at 3" of lift.

Dont do it, they are a pita, ride way to hard and way to long in the back.
I have a 2000 xj with 3" of lift.

Im not so concerned about ride quality. Being 17 im more concerned about cost of the parts. I got a good deal and thats all I care about. I guess ill just wait to install them when I do the lift.

Good choice, if you just slap them on then youll most likely bottom them out..then they wont be worth a ****.

I have them on my Cherokee with 2 inches of lift and they feel good. Ebay $50 for all four shipped. I like how they feel compared to the blown out 14 year old original shocks that were previously on my jeep. I have read they are good for 2 to 4 inches of lift up to 5 inches with bar pin eliminators. I think they will be too short with stock suspension.

These are stock JK shocks? 2 door or 4 door? This money saving appeals to me

My experience exactly on the two I've done with 3" lifts.

Just gotta change the ends a bit. Nothing a guy can't do with a vice in about 15 minutes. Lots of them around left over from JK guys doing lifts. and, they're gas shocks!!

And, they ride nice.

The JK shocks I put on my Cherokee were from a shop that did a lift for someone and then sold the oem parts on ebay. I put them on my 96 4dr Cherokee. I don't know if they came from a 2dr or 4dr JK and don't know if it matters. It was a stock JK not a Rubicon. You will need to either take the bar pins from your cherokee shocks and press them in the JK shocks as they don't have bar pins or get yourself bar pin eliminators. Other than that the install was easy.

According to jeep forum budget build thread:
JK shocks = slight mod to fit 2-4" lift (must be from JK Rubicon, BPEs are not required, you need to press out the metal sleeves from the JK shocks, and insert the XJ stock bar pins to the axle-side part of the front shocks, and the body-side of the rear shocks.)

Cherokee forum budget build:
5. JK shocks = slight mod to fit 2-4" lift (some dispute)

One thread said must be from JK Rubicon other didn't specify. I used regular JK ones and they work for 2 inches of lift. There is a writeup on jeepforum search jk shocks on a xj.

There are 2 different kinds of the JK shocks.. I believe one is from the regular JKs, and the others are from the rubicons..one set is black and one is red. I doubt there is much difference between them though.

i had shocks off of a 2010 rubi 2dr, and for some reason the rear shocks rode hard as hell. no clue why. i just replaced them with some gas magnums from my work, and all better. but i ended up having to weld a sheet of steel where the original shock mounts were.so i lost about an inch of travel.
