Default Interior colors

Hey guys

I'm trying to restore the interior of my 87 pioneer.

The PO replaced or repainted the burgandy trim black. The dash and seats are still burgandy.

I'm having a hard time matching the color. Any suggestions on color or where to find it?

Does'nt look painted. I would not expect a paint job to stay good looking very long.

If you can take a part into a paint store, they can probably match it pretty well, and advise you on the correct paint. I"m thinking your basic latex isn't going to cut it!

Wouldn't hurt to try LMC truck. They have some paints for interior parts.

I've used something like SEM vinyl paint on my Mustang and with the right prep it's held for many years, but I don't drive that often.

I know the rear cargo trim looks to have been painted over. The red is showing through were it's been scratched up. The door panels I think we're swapped.

I did bring the window crank in to an automotive paint shop and they are even having a hard time matching it.

My advice, start looking around for maybe a parts truck or a junk yard. They may have the trim parts you need, that have never been painted.

If you want to simply paint, perhaps look online at some of the places that do factory match paint for vehicle exteriors, and see if they make an interior paint.

I've been been searching all the local yards, but most just have 97 and up xjs around here. None of the older ones have the red interior.

I found a few on eBay but I'm not sure I want to spend $200 on door panels that may or may not match once I get them. I may end up going that way if I can't find a color match, but that still leaves all the black trim around the doors and headliner.

Not that this is really going to help you but appears the official color is Cordovan. For '87 and up.
Garnet which appears to be more of a red is the official color for '86 and down.
If I had to guess it looks like the door handles you are holding in the third shot are cordovan on the left and garnet on the right.

EDIT:
I just noticed the new post.
Maybe contact him and see what year they came out of.
I am not seeing it in the listing.
I like when Ebay sellers tell you the year of the Jeep the parts came out of.
Helps sometimes. Cause many of these guys are clueless and think all XJ parts fit all years.
And while some interior parts fit multiple years they did change colors.
Pretty much what you are going through.

Thanks, that does help. I'll try searching Cordovan colors.

You are correct on the door handles. The one on the left is the correct color I'm trying to match and the one on the right is the color I tried thinking it was Garnet.

I'm going with the Cordovan brown. I've tried the burgandy and that was too red.

A good paint shop can use their digital paint scanner to figure out the color and the computer will spit out the paint formula so they can mix it to match. Bring several pieces for an average.

So the Cordovan was too brown. I took the window crank shopping and found a fairly close match at wallmart of all places. It's called Kona brown but it's really glossy. Top crank is the Kona brown, middle is original, third piece is the Cordovan.

I think I can degloss it for the trim panels around above the doors by the headliner. Should not be as noticeable.

For the for panels I emailed that what seller and bought all for panels and armrests for$140. They were from an 87. He was very knowledgeable.
Here is how they look.
