Sup everyone.

"What happend"
Soo had a serious electrical problem found it heater plug for the switch in the heat high and low was burnt and melted up it had shorted something in my jeep causing alot of problems.
Long story Short.. i Shorted my jeep. Now i get NO crank.
i have power too my lights and power too all sorts of wires but anything that goes into my ignition switch has no power when key ON. or radio. has power.

"Traces and connections"
Problem i cant figure out is. Ive unplugged the heater All of it,
Checked wires fuses relays starter battery you name it! ive checked it!


Oddness of my issue is i just put in a new switch last night thinking it might have been the cause. its not. the plugs that go into my switch are not getting power at all.

Preps for my jeep are.. 1987 jeep xj renix 4.0L
New battery new starter new ignition switch. New Relay's (All fuel pump relay's from junk yard lots of them)

Cause was from my heater shorting out but unpluged and traced
no wire damage or fuse busted.
Only damage i think is bad is my collum?

Do you have +12V present at the fuses? (Pull the fuses and probe the socket with a DVM. One side should have power. Some are always hot, others with Ignition ON.. see if any are dead. If you find a dead one, work backwards from there.

Might also check the fusible links- I'm not familiar enough with Renix to know exactly where they put them, but they are often located near the starter or starter relay, tied to the battery side.

Hey good point i didnt check that. where are they located? i checked my fuse box it has power. my whole jeep has power. but just not the ignition?
And As for the fuseable links. would that cause no power in the ignition i took got volage on the links. least the ones that are on the starter relay.
is it possible the collum can go bad. sorry im a first xj owner kinda newb at all this

Found a drawing for an '87. Looks like the fusible links are attached to the starter relay. Hopefully the color codes are correct so you can trace wiring until you find the point where it's losing power.

PROBLEM FINALLY FIXED LAST NIGHT.

Anyone who has troubles getting there jeep started with my problems
DO what everyone else say's CHECK Them wires! because i found out
the Big red power hot wire from the ignition switch is damaged somewhere i ran a bypass into it ( power from another wire) and it fixed the problem for now. now too trace the wire! :]

The big red power wire to the ign. switch goes to the battery terminal on the starter relay, through a fusible link. Chances are the link is blown and the rest of the wire is fine.
You can cut those links out and splice in a new one.

a similar thing has happened on my MJ just the other day. the windshield wiper circuit breaker has a busted terminal, so i rigged up something quick using some alligator clips. of course, it came off and one wire shorted by tapping the e-brake pedal. all the fusible links off the starter relay check out, but still nothing on the damned ignition switch. i'm assuming the problem lies at the fuse box connector, but haven't pulled it out completely to see.

there are some terminals on the box that don't pair off with a fuse but have power. i was planning on tapping one of those and splicing into the big red wire. which wire did you use to get voltage onto the ignition switch?

I found that if you unplug your wiring harnes from fire wall and checknur wires. Mine was coroded super bad.
