That sounds like a great idea.

guys, i am going to be the downer here.

i think this look so ghetto, cutting up hoods to put in a vent from a lebaron or a dryer or something. i am in no way at all interested in making a vehicle look attractive. i am totally for usable mods, as this one is but it looks so cheap and trashy. my wife saw some of the pics also and made some negative comments too.

do they not make a cowl induction hood or something like that so it looks smooth and nice. not like something that was pop riveted on?

sorry guys, this is one mod that is just bad looking. there has to be some other way to drop under hood temps then this.

also, to the guy with the vents backward, the reason that the vents point towards the windshield is because the air traveling over the hood is pulling the heat out. the air pressure under the hood is not pushing the heat out. the reason the temps drop while sitting still is because at that point, the heat rising has an escape point. but while moving, the vents are used to pull air out through, almost like a venturi

I have seen Cherokees with them on and I have heard about how well they work, I just want to know if rain and snow would cause any problems to the motor or any electrical things. Thanks

Check out this thread (http://www.cherokeetalk.com/forum/f64/hood-vents-83/ Thread 3 & 4 has the finished pics) - I think he did a great job of putting in the vents and keeping it looking nice (except for the silver screws). Adding them in the side of the fender would really look "ghetto" but I think some of them that posted on the hood look good. Not to mention if you get some from the ZJ that came stock - it should look OK. This is just my opinion and being I have an 01 which has the heat issue (does not start nice and runs rough if the engine is hot - and it had the recall done) it is almost a must. This is just a way to get the heat out witihout spending a bunch of money.
I have seen a few Cowl hoods but not sure where they got them. Here is one at quadratec http://www.quadratec.com/products/55023_003_T.htm but I would rather spend the $30.00 on the vents shown in the first link then $430 on a cowl hood. Just my opinion.

I have the same magnaflow and have nothing but good things to say, my brother got his from ebay but I wanted a valid warranty(I have had problems with ebay sellers before) so I got it here. magnaflow 16405, or you can try one of the vendors here on the forum selling magnaflow, they are allways having sales/specials on the forums. It is nicely built and sounds great I think.

Plan is in motion. Went to the pick-n-pull with my son yesterday and picked up a perfect hood to use. Wrong color but plan on painting it once I cut the vent holes. hood cost me $45.00 and vents are going to be under $20 so $65 and I will have a summer vented hood.

On a side note - it was sad to see soo many XJ's sitting there with the engines painted pink marking they were cash for clunkers. On was a pre 96 with only 98000 miles on it and it looked pretty clean.

The ones I ordered are Seadog slotted vents but look like different then those (mine look more like Mudd's). I should be starting to cut them in this weekend and will post picks.

thats terrible. What a lot of morons dont realize is that not everyone can afford to drop their good running realible guzzler for about 2k and then pay another 10k for an eco-friendly one. Makers like Honda and Toyota jumped all over this, and tried to mock a lot of people keeping their "clunkers". Jeeps serve well, and its sad that a perfectly good vehicle like that will now just sit there and rust.

on a side note to the guy above me who said he bought a second hood, that made me think. Would there be anyway to get vents that could be closed somehow?? So during winter or a big storm, just close up the vents? Im sure something could be rigged to do this.

I might be swapping my vents out for a big center scoop. I saw a black xj today with one and it looked absolutely sick.
