Anyone seen a thread on a guy that cut two circles in his hood and made plugs to fill them. He just takes out the plugs when he's offroading. Said it works really well. I think i found the thread on here but can't seem to find it again

got the idea for mine from MrJCRod. cleanest and best design IMO. I've had them on since March without drip pans and haven't had ANY problems (even with hurricane weather).

HotRodders have cutting louvers into hoods and fenders forever.
There is nothing to buy.
Just draw lines on your hood and use a thin cut off wheel and cut each line.
then raise the trailing edge.
Simple nothing to it and nothing to buy if you have some tools already.

Default $11.31 XJ hood vents

this wat I did for my hot running XJ. I got these saufet vents and screws at the home depot for $11.31 and then painted them black. They are 16x8 and work really well. The only down side would be that they are not super sturdy so you may want to get some a little more sturdy. Oh and always measure twice, cut once.

Ive been wanting to do some vents on my hood, but Im wondering, my Jeep stays outside all the time. Never garaged, never covered. Is rain an issue?

When you raise the back of the hood up, there is nothing behind it to stop it if you get in a wreck. It will probably get pushed right through the windshield. As a former firefighter, I have seen stuff like this. It is nothing to loose your head over.

X10 on this. It would be the closet shave of your life. (14 year full time FF)

Same vents on mine. Best part is they are 2 bucks each.....rivets cost more.

This is exactly what I was looking for, but won't the paint chip? I kinda want to avoid having to paint the hood. I was hoping to find a place that would do it professionally.

Cody: Yes, it will. When you do real louvers on sheet metal, it bends, pushes, pulls and stretches the metal. It really should be bare metal that youre doing the louvers on, because the paint will get destroyed, and trying to sand, prep and paint louvers would be NO fun. There are plenty of places that do it, but its NOT cheap. Usually something like a few dollars per louver.

bamfxj: Do you leave your Jeep out in the rain? What is the effect of the water running down over the motor/wiring? I know, I drive in the rain and it splashes up from the bottom, but its got to be a big difference if its coming in from the top during a torrential rain storm I would think.

Went out on a limb with this one.

Home depot special.

Yes it is offset to the passenger side a little. I did it to clear my K&N.
