Never hurts on the ground strap. Is there, or is there not, a screw to adjust the butterfly?

There is a screw that the bracket sits on. I'm assuming that's it.

I wonder if someone ever screwed with it, or if you're getting air around the bushings of the throttle body.

i don't know... i don't know how i would ever know if someone did. If i lowered it a little i feel like that would just mask the real issue.
This whole problem has me completely baffled.

The Renix ones could be adjusted without removing the throttle body. Someone would have to be determined to mess with that screw on an HO for sure, as in remove the TB. Have you sprayed around the ends of the throttle shaft real well? Wiggled the ends with it running?

I just sprayed carb cleaner between the bracket and the TB itself and the engine started stumbling a little bit. So what does this mean? Do I need a whole new TB? Or is there something much cheaper I can do?

Throttle shaft bushings are shot. If it were me and I didn't want to spend any money, I'd take the tB off and adjust the throttle plate tighter. I have the REnix TB adjustment procedure if you want it.

Or, you could spring for a big bore TB from www.strokedjeep.com for around $100 and get a performance gain in the mix...

I give up! Haha, but Chris, I do agree with Cruiser, that makes perfect sense. Cruiser, would you mind shooting me a PM or posting up the throttle plate adjustment procedure as well?

We have a great "Salvage Jeep" place here as well, I'm sure getting him to pull a TB off of one of his 400+XJ's in the back may be a cheap option as well. I've thought throttle body from day 1. The idle feels to high to be a minor, not noticeable vacuum leak. It'd take a significant, obvious leak to get to 1100 RPM idle I feel like with a fuel injected vehicle.

All right. I'll go out there tomorrow and spray some carb cleaner in there again just to be sure and if need be, tighten it up. Can you send me the procedure?

Remember this is for Renix. Same principles apply but allen sizes etc are probably gonna be different. You can handle it for sure.

Cruiser’s Renix Throttle Body Butterfly Adjustment

Okay. Let's start from scratch. First off, that's not an idle adjustment screw. It's a throttle butterfly stop screw. It's purpose is to allow the butterfly to be as close to completely closed as it can be without binding or wearing into the throttle body. It was never intended to be adjusted in the field. But, Uncle Bob didn’t know that, did he?

Engine off. Back off the butterfly stop screw with a 3/32" allen wrench until the butterfly is completely closed. Now. turn the screw in until the FAINTEST movement of the butterfly opening is detected. This can be done more easily with the throttle body removed. If you remove the throttle body, be sure to replace the gasket underneath it after thoroughly cleaning the old one off.

Wheres the other end connected almost looks like it would head toward vac ball area .Dos air change when you move selector on dash to different vents. I dought that screws been tampered with on tb if any thing bending linkage slightly will get same results.

Bending might work, but you gotta be careful here. If the butterfly shuts too hard against the bore, the thing sticks closed and eats into the bore. Easier to just do it with the TB removed.

I'm with you. Where's the other end of that hose connected?

I've been in there and briefly looked at that hose. It runs to a wireloom and towards the firewall. I didn't investigate it too much, just a glimpse while changing his plugs.
