jack the truck up as high as your jack stands will go (asumeing you have evrything but your conroll arms taken off) lower the axle so it's supported only but the control arms and jack one side of the axle up and the stock spring will damn near fall out. thats the way i did it. and i just used a BFH to get them back in. again thats the way i did it.. not saying its the right way because if your not carefull you can bend your hub asembly on your axle.

VERY carefully use 2 heavy duty ratchet straps 1 coil in so you dont pinch them when you seat em. watch your fingers when you release the straps.

i look at it like this guys is it worth rigging a way to compress a spring when it could be fatal or take off a finger i dont know about u but taking leaving 50 bucks at autozone for a day is worth way more to me than risking injury

I just did this, and this is the best way, I think:
1. rent the compressor as he said, but get the STRUT compressor (goes on the outside of the spring) not the "coil spring" compressor that goes on the inside. the one for the inside is USELESS.
2. compress the spring and test fit. if it still won't go in, remove the lower control arms. this will let your axle drop to the ground, pretty much. a pry bar might be needed to coax in the last 1/2 inch or so.
NOTE: if you haven't pulled the stock spring yet, jack up the axle on the side you're removing, and then put on the compressors. saves a lot of muscle
also, when you put the compressors on the new spring, watch how you place them...make sure they are not going to be in the way when you try to put the spring in...and put them one coil above the bottom and below the top!
3. after the spring is in, you may need to ratchet strap the axle either foward or back to realign the lower control arm; get things lined up (2 people really help!) and bolt it back in.
