Spending time trying to figure this out. LOL. I am on it but don't have any good answers.

As Turbo X_J pointed out isn't there one for a actual gauge and one for the idiot light. Also I am under the impression that '96 and down ones have 2 temp sensors.
So here is a shot out of the '94 to '96 parts catalog.

So it looks like the 33004281 is the right one for an XJ. But again thought there was 2 different ones. One for a gauge and one for an idiot light. Only one listed.
Oh and to throw more crap in the game why does it look like there are different ones for RHD YJ's? And why would it matter?
Is your XJ RHD?
Crossing the 33004281 part number at Napa gets you here.

https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/MPET...?interchange=1

So I think we need detailed pics of the one in there now. Napa shows some different shots that might help.
I am wondering if the 33004281 that you ordered is packaged wrong. Work at an auto parts store and it would not
be the first time that ever happened. LOL.

And that 7-052 kinda looked like a Standard part number to me. But Google was not any help in that.
I also tried crossing it at the Napa, cause not only can you cross car makers part numbers but also
aftermarket ones sometimes, but that was of no help either.

Those all appear to have rectangular connectors (late 96 and newer). On your 95, you should have oval connectors like the following:

Omix-Ada 17217.01 Temperature Sensor

I have a '96. There are two sensors. The one at the back of the head is for info to the dash and it comes in two configurations. One for a gauge and one for a light. SORRY I have no part #'s.

Now that is what I thought too. The parts catalog is not clear.

And here is something weird. Under the 4.0 engine section showing parts for the head this is listed:

6035 687 1 PLUG, Temperature Sending Hole

So jordan96xj usually knows what he is talking about. But I don't see how the one for a '97 works. Does not look the same to me.

Is this a diesel by any chance?
Cause in a '97 I found this listing.

SENSOR, Coolant Temperature
4686192 EN0 Diesel
Which led me to this pictrure.

Which leads me here:
