I ran an RE H&T SYE with a front Drive shaft and a Spicer 211229x flange adapter for years. The only problem I had with it was a lost lock ring. I ended up welding the washer into the adapter .

Installing it was a challenge. My first attempt resulted in a hole in the shaft that wasn't nerfectly centered. I replaced the shaft and put the entire t-case on my drillpress table for the second attempt at drilling the shaft...worked beautifully.

After installing my new motor I had to swithch to a short shaft SYE from JB Conversions. Great product but a little pricey. ya get what ya pay for though....and it was the only thing that work for my application.

Any difference between the two as far as driveability is concerned? No, none at all.

Either style will work just fine.

I run an RE hack and tap. Got 50K on it, along with a custom shaft, Tom Woods I believe. Never a problem, been to Wharton, Uwharrie, NY, MA, Tellico... never a problem.

Rolled under the jeep, cut off a bit, punched a center hole, drilled, tapped, bolted it on...been perfect ever since.

Im at 4.5 on an 89 with 231TC.

Sorry for the highjack, but lets say, i got an Iron rock offroad Hack and Tap and i didnt cut off that much spline, maybe an inch (per their instructions)
and it leaks like crazy. how much spline have you all cut off? im wondering if i cut another inch off if my driveshaft will work. Its just a rebuilt front DC

I didnt get my hole perfectly centered, but my vibes are gone, it just leaks

My jeep is a 93. I hear a sound when I'm going down the road like there are subs going off and when I get a violent shakes around twenty haven't pushed it past 35. So I assume I got to get the SYE? Also I got some bad bump stear is that normal for a 4.5 inch lift

I have an 89' Cherokee with NP242. I installed a SYE kit from Mechanically Inclined Technicians: http://www.mit4x4.com/ myself in 2003 along with a telescoping drive shaft. I am fortunate to have access to a lift in the Auto Hobby Shop on base. Five bucks an hour. I have had no problems or complaints with the operation and performance. The install was a bit of a challenge with the C-clips inside the transfer case though. It would be nice if there were holes in the ends of the C-clips so snap ring pliers would work. I think this conversion is a must with 3" and higher lifts.
